The Cellular Jail situated in Port Blair is a national memorial and used to house many notable Indian activists during the struggle for India’s independence. This is the jail where ‘dangerous criminals’ used to be sent to when they had a ‘Kala Paani ki Saza’ ruling. The jail stands witness to the sufferings of the freedom fighters and patriots of India. Within the jail is a museum, an art gallery and a photo exhibit. The story India’s freedom struggle is brought alive in a moving Son-et-Lumiere (light and sound show) which is shown daily inside the jail compound at 6:00 pm in Hindi and 7:15 pm in English

Ross Island is a small yet historically significant island situated near Port Blair. It was the administrative headquarters for the British during their rule in the Andamans. During the British rule, that the island was developed to a perfect township. It had to be vacated however due to an earthquake. One can still find ruins of the fascinating buildings on the island, like the Ballroom, the Chief Commissioner’s House, Govt. House, a Church, a Hospital, a Bakery, a Press, a Swimming Pool and Troop Barracks. Ofcourse, these all are in a decrepit condition. In its heyday, Ross Island was known as the ‘Paris of the East’. Today, the Island is under Indian Navy’s jurisdiction

At the eastern end of Port Blair lies the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex. The complex offers a range of water sports: banana rides, jet skiing, parasailing, speed boat rides, rowboat paddling and a lot more. They also have scuba diving. It has a jetty which is the starting point for many a island hopping excursions. The Water Sports Complex also has a package of Rs.4500 which includes a personal speed boat for you to take you to the North Bay Island & Ross Island along with all the adventure activities

A part of the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Jolly Buoy Island is a small island off Wandoor Beach. It is very famous for its underwater corals and its pristine clear beach. Head over to Jolly Buoy Island for some Snorkelling, scuba diving and glass bottom boat rides.

A small bay, Corbyn’s Cove is a popular tourist attraction. Surrounded by lush green palm trees, this is one of the places you should head over to while in Port Blair. The drive to the cove is a scenic one, the pristine blue waters lining the entire route. What makes this place such a popular destination is its many entertainment options. From jet skiing to water scooters to souvenir shopping to great food to people watching to a great view of the sunset/sunrise, you’ll find it all over here. If you are a water baby and love water sports and water activities, head over to the North Bay Island for the time of your life. The Island is just a 40-45 minute ferry ride from the mainland and is the perfect place for a one day trip. Activities available on the island are sea walking, snorkeling, jet skiing, speed boat rides and a lot more. A must visit for the adventure junkies. The North Bay Island is also quite popular for its magnificent corals.

Situated around 17 kilometres from Port Blair, Chidiya Tapu AKA Sunset Point and Bird Island is a small beach at the southern tip of Andaman. The drive from Port Blair to Chidiya Tapu is scenic as the road winds through forests and hills. Head over to Chidiya Tapu if you are an avid ornithologist (bird watcher) or you want to see a breath taking sunset. For photography buffs, the gentle waters, the trees standing right in the waters and the sun setting behind the hills make for a wonderful photo opportunity

Run by the Indian Navy, the Samudrika Marine Museum is a must visit while on a trip to Port Blair. On display are informative pieces and artefacts of the islands’ ecosystem, the tribal communities, the flora and fauna, the animals and the marine life. There is also an aquarium within the premises. The museum has been thoughtfully divided into five different rooms, each one displaying a different facet of the Andaman Islands. Displayed outside is a skeleton of a young blue whale which had washed ashore on the Nicobars

The Anthropological Museum is an ethnographic museum illustrating the four Negrito tribes of Andaman viz. the Jarawas, the Sentinelese, the Great Andamanese and the Onges and two Mongoloid tribes of the Nicobar viz. the Nicobarese and the Shompens. On display are shamanic sculptures, chest guards, tribal weapons and a lot more. The Anthropological Museum is a good place to understand the Andaman and Nicobar culture and the history of the island’s tribes. A small but well maintained museum in Port Blair

If you are visiting Port Blair with your kids, head over to the Marina Park and Aquarium. Situated near the Water Sports Complex, Marina Park houses a kids’ play area, a walking track, a fancy pond and picnic areas. Situated near the premises is an aquarium famous for its collection of a wide variety of fishes and corals. Also on display is information about aquatic life.

Situated around 43 kilometres from the city of Port Blair lies the highest peak in the South Andaman archipelago, Mount Harriet. Boasting of a rich fauna and flora, the peak is a trekkers’ paradise and the view from the top is magnificent. Situated around Mount Harriet is the Mount Harriet National Park. Spread across 46.62 sq. km, the park is home to around 90 species of birds, 27 species of reptiles, 12 species of mammals and 120 species of moths. The park is also home to around 390 plant types. A must visit for nature lovers

The trek route from Mount Harriet to Madhuban is famous and a loved one by all trekkers. Madhuban is a natural garden located in South Andaman Islands. It has a rich collection of birds like parakeet, swift, dove, hite bellied sea eagle, local teal, kingfisher, reef heron, wader, tern, and whistling teal. And the variety of beautifully coloured butterflies leaves one mesmerised. But Madhuban is more famous for its elephants! Here, by the initiative of the Government of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, young elephants are trained to work at various farms

Gandhi Park is a magnificent park situated in the heart of the city of Port Blair. This park boasts of facilities like an amusement park, water sports, natural trails, gardens and lawns, nice cozy restaurants and the historic remains of a Japanese Temple. There is also a bunker. The Japanese temple and the bunker were constructed sometime during World War II. Do head over to the park if you are travelling with family and kids

As the name itself suggests, the Mini Zoo is a small zoo located in the Haddo area of Port Blair. Once a major tourist attraction and known for its crocodile breeding programs, the zoo now houses very few animals. A majority of the animals were shifted to the Chidiya Tapu Biological Park. Presently, the Mini Zoo houses monkeys, a salt water crocodile, Malayan box turtle and birds like the Andaman dark serpent eagle, white bellied sea eagle, parrots and the Nicobar pigeon
